Read through Hair Loss - A Combined Approach To Treatment additional

Today many men and an ever-increasing number of women, have to contend with the problem of hair loss. As much as losing your hair can make you appear to be years older (enough reason in itself to look for a cure), the main issues that people have with losing their hair is the lack of self-confidence that they have. It is precisely due to the mental and emotional aspects of hair loss that men and women everywhere are seeking some form of hair loss prevention or cure. There are a number of treatment options available for anyone suffering from hair loss. The natural hair loss treatment option is definitely the one preferred by most people. There is a trend away from more conventional pharmaceutical hair loss products with most people not prepared to risk possible side effects of such medications and products.

The problem with the natural approach, however, is that in many cases the products simply are not strong enough to arrest the hair loss, or to encourage any meaningful new hair growth. If the problem is treated early enough, these natural treatments are often all that's required. If the problem is not diagnosed or not treated appropriately there is a point beyond which natural remedies will not work.

There are a number of natural products on the market today that have combined the best herbal and nutritional hair growth substances and created very effective clinically proven formulas to arrest hair loss and to generate re-growth. The foundations of most of these formulas are nutrients such as Biotin; Magnesium; Zinc and herbs such as Saw Palmetto and Nettle. These formulas are taken internally - not applied to the hair and scalp itself.

If the natural approach proves to be ineffective, then a more powerful medication can be used such as Propecia. Propecia has been shown clinically to be very effective in promoting re-growth of hair in men (it is not to be used by women). The main action of Propecia is lowering the hormonal levels in the body that inhibit the growth of hair. However there are some side effects, such as some degree of sexual dysfunction occurring in a very small percentage of men. Fortunately, sexual function returns to normal as soon as the medication is stopped.

Another problem with Propecia is that if usage is stopped, the gains in hair re-growth can be gradually lost.

In addition to oral medication and supplements there are a number of topically applied treatments that have been proven to be very useful. And just as with the oral medications, there are a number of natural and pharmaceutical alternatives to choose from. The general consensus is that the topical treatments are much more effective when combined with some form of oral medication or nutritional support.

The most effective topical hair loss treatment is the pharmaceutical Rogaine. The active ingredient in Rogaine is Minoxidil and unlike many hair loss treatments, women can use Rogaine in slightly smaller doses than that used by men.

In any hair loss treatment program it would seem that a combination of oral medication and/or nutritional support supplemented with an appropriate topically applied product, gives the best chance of preventing hair loss and encouraging the re-growth of healthy hair.
